    University of California, Berkeley developed OLED electronic skin

    University of California, Berkeley, has developed a super thin “electronic skin”, which is essentially a flexible plastic sensor, but it can reflect on touch. If you put more pressure on it, OLED electronic skin can be shinier.
    The sheet based on Javey initial semiconductor nano-transistors, this “e-skin” touch response, also can be used for medical applications and interactive displays.
    E skin consists of a thin film transistor, a pressure sensor, and the OLED components, which are arranged in a matrix of 16×16, can display red, blue and green colors. According to the researchers, they can be easily installed on any surface.
    The study support by the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), in addition to the robot skin (touch when lit), may be applied to other areas including touch-screen and dashboard display (to help control the car).
    Co-researcher Wang Chuan said, “I can imagine it being used in the field of health monitoring, such as arm bandages, blood pressure and pulse rate continuous inspection, also other field.” Javey is modifying E skin sensors to enable it respond to temperature and light.
